As this new cryptocurrency bitcoin grows and gaining widespread popularity, there’s no doubt that some bad guys may want to use this opportunity to get rich quick with bitcoins.
On January 31st 2014, i received an email from a gmail account (which is in my spam folder anyway) that Blockchain has a 50 BTC reward for me.
I immediately knew that the bad guys are around. They want to hijack my account and drain every single bitcoin in it, “No way!”.
Here’s a text and image version of the exact email i received from this scammer. You may have received this same email.

The message in the email is simple to understand, they want me to provide them with that long string of randomly generated words given to me when my Blockchain account was opened.
As you may remember, those long string of words are the only means by which Blockchain.info can help you recover your account in case you forgot your password or account identifier.

When you provide this information to this bitcoin scammer, they will use it against you and gain access to your account and possibly drain all your precious money.
It’s quite a cheap and easy way to scam anyway!
One sure way to protect your account is to ignore all suspected emails from unknown persons. You can only get affected by these bitcoin scams if you do whatever the scammer is asking you to do.
Your Blockchain.info account is already secure, so there’s no further step required on your part to secure your account.
Another protective measure would be to look for another similar online bitcoin wallet provider. The best wallet provider very similar and more popular than Blockchain is Coinbase. If you don’t already have an account with Coinbase, You can register with them as they provide more services (including wallet services) than Blockchain.info.
